Travel Documents Required

Passport: Every foreign passenger entering Ecuador must have a passport valid for up to 6 months counting from the return date to your country of origin.

Visa: Visas are not required forU.S, UK and most European Citizens traveling to Ecuador. Please verify with your embassy and consulate if you need a visa to travel to Ecuador.

Travel & Health Insurance: Please note all visitors to Ecuador will be required to have proof of public or private health insurance to enter the country.

International & National Connectivity

Traveling to Ecuador is easy with multiple international flights arriving to either Quito, Guayaquil or Manta.

From Europe: Flights to Ecuador leave from London, Madrid, Amsterdam, Paris and Frankfurt.

From the United States: Flights are always routed through Miami, Ft. Lauderdale, Houston, Atlanta or New York.

You can also fly to Ecuador via Panamá, Bogota and Mexico City.

Domestic flights are covered by LATAM and AVIANCA. Most of the domestic flights last around 35 minutes from one point to the other.

Baggage on commercial flights is normally limited to one or two pieces of 23Kgs. checked and a 8kgs-piece cabin carriage.

Language

Official language is Spanish, but our team and guides also speak fluent Spanish and English.

Time Zone

Ecuador’s mainland is in the GMT-5 time zone, the same as US Eastern Standard Time (EST).

The Galapagos Islands, located approximately 1,000 km (620 mi) west of mainland Ecuador, are in the GMT -6 time zone, the same as US Central Standard Time (CST) (one hour behind mainlandEcuador).

Neither observes daylight saving time.

Power Outlets & Electricity

Standard 120V and standard frequency of 60Hz. Power outlets are type A and B, similar to the ones used in the U.S. European plugs will need an adapter.

Currency

Ecuador has adopted the US Dollar ($) as official currency.

Cash

Small denominations should be brought when shopping. Avoid bringing $100 dollar bills as these will not be easily accepted except at banks.

Banks

Banking hours are from 09:00am to 16:00pm Monday through Friday.

Credit Cards

Most shops and restaurants take credit cards. Visa and MasterCard are much more widely accepted than American Express.

Warm/Wet Season ("Summer"): December to May - Is the warmer time of year, with higher humidity, clear skies, and occasional short bursts of rain. The seas are generally calmer during this season, and the water temperatures are warmer, making it ideal for swimming and snorkeling.

There is less rainfall, and the weather feels cooler and more overcast, particularly in the mornings. The seas are rougher during this season, but the cooler water brings an abundance of marine life, making it a great time for wildlife viewing.
